What is mechanical scrimshaw, you ask? It has been well debated and accepted that using a laser to create an image on any type of material is considered mechanical scrim or the poor man’s scrim.

Here Creative Dimensions has used a laser to achieve a scrimshaw appearance. These can be duplicated many times whereas real hand made scrim is an art form that cannot be duplicated. Both have their place.
